The Angola Project
This project
features Wiley investigating the roots and legacies of African
American prison spirituals - encompassing folk, blues, and
gospel - with a focus on the songs and stories from the Louisiana
State Penitentiary in Angola, Louisiana, from the 1950s onward.
Pairing original compositions with Howard's arrangements of
traditional songs, this projects has played to sold out shows in
its first weeks. |

The Howard Wiley Trio
Performing a blend of original compositions and unique
arrangements on traditional standards, the much sought after
Howard Wiley Trio is formed around a standard jazz trio structure
of drums, bass and saxophone. Showcasing the exceptional
skills of each artist, the Trio is as comfortable with all-out,
explosive improvisation as they are with straight-ahead standards. |

In Solo
Howard is a frequent session and studio contributor to a variety
of Bay Area, national and international recording artists.
He is available for touring and recording projects.
“With a debonair, untailored stroll, Howard
Wiley stepped on stage…unmasking the persona of an unassuming
leader...this humility, though, translates into downright
explosiveness on the bandstand.”
– journalist Drew Foxman. |
